Committees

CAR Governance

All Governing Committee Meetings are conducted in accordance with the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 30A, Section, 11A1/2. Notices of Meetings are furnished to all committee members, the Commissioner of Insurance, and the Secretary of State.

Standing Committees

Advisory Committees, Subcommittees, and Ad Hoc/Special Committees are appointed on an annual basis by the Governing Committee, in consultation with the Commissioner of Insurance, from among member companies and producers.

Remote Meeting Protocols

As Massachusetts legislature has temporarily modified the open meeting law to allow remote participation by committee members without impacting quorum requirements, CAR will continue to conduct advisory meetings remotely. To ensure meetings are conducted in an efficient and professional manner, the Remote Meeting Protocols have been established to facilitate effective committee discussions and maintain an accurate attendance record by requiring attendees to have their video cameras turned on from a location that affords the appropriate privacy from which to participate.

Conflict of Interest Policy

The Conflict of Interest Policy has been established to assist individuals serving on CAR’s committees in avoiding actual or potential conflicts of interest as relates to committee discussion or activity and provide guidance on when a Committee Member should recuse him or herself from participating in Committee discussion and vote on an issue. A statement in this regard is read at each CAR committee meeting.

Committee Meeting Postponement Policy

The Committee Meeting Postponement Policy has been established to address the emergency postponement or cancellation of a scheduled CAR committee meeting.
